Codename Nevis: 869 AM

Nevis, 1988. When the team at Radio Nevis discovers that their AM broadcasts can be heard in Britain, a distant audience suddenly feels within reach. Their producer sees an opportunity: bring a young British singer to the island, record an original song with local musicians and make a run at the UK charts. Making that happen brings musical ambitions, romantic entanglements and strong personalities into the same small studio. Decades later, the song finds its way back into the charts. A British journalist travels to Nevis to meet the station’s original producer and hear how it all began. Moving between 1988 and the present, this musical romantic comedy follows the people behind an unlikely hit and the island that brought them together.

Radio Nevis sends a team to Britain with an unusual assignment: record their own station being received in Mr. Sikorski’s home. What began as a remarkable story about an AM signal becomes a journey to meet the person listening at the other end. For once, the people behind the microphone get to be the audience.

Mr. Sikorski has mysteriously disappeared. With more questions than answers, the team at Radio Nevis hires a private detective to find their distant listener. Running a radio station hardly qualifies them to help with a missing-person investigation, but personal involvement has never stopped them before.

A major investment project could bring new opportunities to Nevis, and the Radio Nevis team joins the effort to attract it to the island. Their enthusiasm is considerable. Their experience in international investment is another question. Getting people excited on the radio turns out to be only the beginning.

The arrival of the island’s first internet cable gives Radio Nevis an idea for its most ambitious live event yet: Nevis’s first radio festival. DJs around the world will perform remotely, with their broadcasts relayed through the new connection to a large stage on the island. The audience is local. The line-up is global. Keeping everyone connected is the team’s problem.

Radio Nevis welcomes a major American radio star to the island for the first time. For the team, it is a chance to meet someone from the world they have long listened to and admired. Now they have to become the hosts, with their station, their island and their own personalities very much on air.

Unexpected contact from Mr. Sikorski brings a familiar name back into the life of Radio Nevis. This time, he is in Lithuania. Hearing from him should settle a few questions, but his new location gives the team plenty more to ask. Their relationship with one distant listener takes another unlikely turn.

The team at Radio Nevis begins working on a plan to rescue Mr. Sikorski. It is an assignment far beyond anything in their job descriptions, requiring them to turn their talent for improvisation into something they can actually rely on. Their distant listener has become someone they are determined to help.

Unexpected world events turn the Radio Nevis team’s plans upside down. Developments far beyond the island suddenly become personal, forcing them to reconsider what comes next. For people accustomed to choosing what goes on air, it is an uncomfortable moment to discover that the biggest story is entirely out of their hands.

Radio Nevis makes a new music video and finds an audience across Latin America, reaching even Cuba. Soon, the song seems to be playing everywhere. For a team whose ambitions began with a distant radio signal, another international hit brings a new chapter in their increasingly unpredictable musical adventure.
