Ben journeys to a remote coastline in Chilean Patagonia to stay with German-born Veronika, who lives with her family in one of the most isolated places on Earth. He discovers that single mother Veronika and seven of her 10 children have built their homestead from scratch. The family are almost entirely self-sufficient, with sheep, goats, pigs and a large garden, as well as their own supply of firewood.

Ben crosses the Channel to rural western France to meet Mark, a former international tech salesman who abandoned his corporate career after a health issue prompted him to rethink his life. Mark has spent six years transforming a derelict pig farm into 'Fantasy Farm' - a sustainable home and sanctuary where nature, creativity and simplicity are at the heart of daily life.
