How exactly did water arrive on our planet, and how fast does a glacier move? "Terra X" presenter Uli Kunz gets to the bottom of the mysteries surrounding H2O.

In the fifth season of the “Fascination of Water” series, marine biologist and research diver Uli Kunz explores two habitats that could hardly be more different: In the episode about water-filled caves, he descends into a dark and magical world. In the underworld of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, the divers explore places that few people have ever seen. In the Alps, Uli descends with cave explorers into what is possibly the deepest diving cave in Germany, and in a diving mine he shows what is important in cave rescue. In the episode on lakes, Uli Kunz presents an extremely diverse habitat: Lakes only cover around three percent of the Earth’s surface – and yet they are crucial to life on our globe. Their number is unevenly distributed, but there is hardly a region without them. From the Scandinavian lake archipelago to Lake Constance and the African salt lakes to the Great Lakes in North America.
The sixth season of “Fascination of Water” spans a wide arc from the coasts of the Mediterranean to the coral reefs in the Pacific. Everywhere, land and sea are inextricably linked: through nature, culture – and the people who live off both. In the episode “The Mediterranean,” Uli Kunz explores our beloved vacation destination: from secluded islands to the most popular vacation regions. He observes one of the rarest seal species in the world – and shows how the Mediterranean is changing due to climate change and mass tourism. In the episode about the “Islands in the Pacific,” Uli dives into one of the largest marine protected areas in the world. He makes unique observations of nature, finds out why so many unique animal and plant species live on islands, and learns the ancient art of navigation by the stars.
This 7th season of “Fascination of Water,” marine biologist and research diver Uli Kunz heads to Japan and Madagascar – two island nations shaped by the water yet could hardly be more different. Whether above or below the water’s surface, he explores how the ocean shapes nature, culture, and people’s lives.
