Overview
Russia regularly questions President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s legitimacy because his term was due to end in 2024. US President Donald Trump has also called for new elections. However, Ukrainian law prohibits elections during martial law, while the ongoing war creates major logistical and security challenges. Many Ukrainians also oppose holding elections in the near future.
