2003-04 Season

Nicolas Reveles hosts a revealing profile of Puccini's grand opera Turandot, a masterpiece of Orientalia and the great composer's final work.

Nicolas Reveles describes the beauty and enchantment of "The Pearl Fishers," a new production of the San Diego Opera. The story, placed in a tropical paradise, tells of a tribal chief and a daring pearl fisher whose friendship is challenged when they both fall in love with a forbidden priestess.

Don Carlo, heir to the Spanish throne, has fallen in love with his stepmother, turned against his father, antagonized the powerful and taken a stand for religious freedom - but he never expected the Spanish Inquisition. Nicolas Reveles guides viewers through the complex world of Don Carlo, considered by many to be Verdi's greatest opera.

Join Nicolas Reveles for an introduction to Katya Kabanova, one of the most evocative works by Czech composer Leos Janácek. Katya combines both Romantic and 20th century music to create an intensely atmospheric and eloquently compelling drama, thoroughly modern yet steeped in Eastern European tradition.

Host Nicolas Reveles sets the stage for Verdi's classic tragedy, one of the most beloved of all operas. Based on the classic novel La Dame aux Camilias by Dumas, La Traviata is a tale of doomed romance among the glittering, decadent "demi-monde" of 19th century Paris, set to haunting music.
