Although photographic technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, Sathian Thong Photo Studio, a traditional studio nearly a century old under the care of Ms. Sudachan, continues to welcome a steady stream of customers. Who are its customers? And what will the next decade hold for this studio? Photographs of revered Buddhist monks, prominent national figures, and old family photographs are framed and neatly displayed across the walls of four adjoining shophouse units that have long stood alongside Photharam Market in Ratchaburi Province. This is the story of Sathian Thong Photo Studio and its sole resident photographer, Ms. Sudachan Laohakit, aged 80. The eldest daughter, she looks after the studio, having learned the craft and inherited the photographic equipment from her father.
